I’m sharing another favorite Waldorf song with you today. I don’t know who wrote it, but it’s a song I’ve sung for years. We’ve sung it at our Harvest Festival and sometimes all year round. The children love to have songs that tell about how nature changes through the cycle of the year. Our little ones are just figuring out the cycle of the seasons. These changes are wonderful and magical. Through our children, we can experience those wonders again, too. So I hope you enjoy this song.

And here’s yours truly singing it for you:
The words
Here are the words–as I sing them. I’ve heard slight variations, and I don’t know which are the original words. (So feel free to make your own variations.)
This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree.
In autumn, the apples fall from me.
They fall. They fall.
This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree.
In winter, the snow it falls on me.
I glimmer. I glimmer.
This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree.
In summer, the wind it blows through me.
I wave. I wave.
You can, of course, start with a different season, if you want. I start with fall partly because I can remember it that way and partly because I like to end with the waving, which I think is pretty fun.
This is a sweet, simple song that you can sing all year round.
So go and sing to your favorite tree. Watch it change through the seasons. It’s a good reminder of the cycles of life and how everything is always changing and yet some things remain constant–like the tall, tall tree that changes through the seasons, yet stands strong and tall through it all.
Songs like these help children understand the rhythm of the year. For more about rhythm, look here.
That’s it for today.
Thanks for stopping by!
