Even though we’re supposed to have snow here in Colorado for the next couple days, spring is coming–for sure!
Spring is coming–spring break plus
I’m on spring break this week and we’ve already had one week added on and there will probably be more. I hope you are all safe and well. I like spending time by myself, but I also like to be with friends. To keep myself from wondering and worrying too much, I’ve decided to keep myself busy. I’ve done a lot of spinning, studying Spanish on Duolingo, reading a lot, watching British mysteries on Acorn TV, and going for long walks. The walks will probably stop for a couple of days until it stops snowing. But I still have my taxes to do! You can bet that I’m looking forward to that!!
One of the things I’ve been wanting to do is to make more YouTube videos–and so I have. I’ve recorded 2 Waldorf EC springtime songs and 2 fingerplays. And here’s the first one:
Spring is coming–the video
This song is a Waldorf classic. I realized I don’t really have room in my apartment or the technology to record myself skipping around, so I used my hands to show skipping and turning–pretty silly, but I did want to share this with you. And I don’t usually let silliness stop me. The words are below.
The words:
Spring is coming,
Spring is coming,
Birdies build your nests;
Weave together straw and feather
Each one doing your best.
Spring is coming,
Spring is coming,
Flowers are coming, too.
Pansies, lilies, daffodilies
All are coming through.
Spring is coming,
Spring is coming,
All around is fair.
Shimmer, quiver on the river
Joy is everywhere!
When spring really arrives, we often change the words to “Spring is here now…” and we can keep singing it for a long time.
I hope you enjoy this song. I’ve shared other Waldorf EC songs, like This is my trunk, I’m a tall, tall tree, which can be sung in any season; and a couple of May Day songs and my version of a Waldorf birthday story.
Also, if you’re interested in reading more about the circle time and why it’s important–at school or at home, although this article is written about school–you can check out this WECAN article: Ringtime as pedagogical opportunity. I used this article when I taught Circle time in a Waldorf teacher training program.
Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you lots of lovely, sunny (and some rainy, too) springtime days.
