Spring is coming and birdies, too–another Waldorf EC Classic for you
Spring is coming and birdies, too, I think! When I woke up and looked out the window yesterday morning, there was snow falling and snow on the ground. It did NOT look like spring. But I want it to be spring! So, using the power of magical thinking, I started singing this springtime song. And I thought I’d share it with you. Maybe if enough of us sing it, spring really will come. The snow is gone–at least for now–so maybe it’s working!
Here are the words:
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
Birdies build your nests;
Weave together straw and feather,
Each one doing your best.
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
Flowers are coming, too,
Pansies, lilies, daffodillies,
All are coming through.
Spring is coming, spring is coming,
All around is fair,
Shimmer, quiver on the river,
Joy is everywhere!
And here is my recording of it
I usually did this song as a circle dance, which is why I didn’t make a video of it here for you. We walked or skipped around the circle, holding hands. Some years I added simple gestures for the second two lines of each verse. For the first verse, I would weave or hold my fingers together to make a nest. For the second verse, I moved my arms from low to high like a flower growing. And for the last verse, I usually just spun in a circle–for joy!
This has been a much-loved song in my Waldorf classes. When spring finally arrives, we just change the words to “Spring is here now…” and keep singing it.
I really hope that you enjoy it–and that spring comes and stays for a while.
In the meantime, thanks for stopping by.
xoxo
