Here are 2 train songs to help you move your little train drivers from one place to another. Getting kids from one place to another can be challenging–even when it’s someplace they want to go! Using fun songs and verses can make going a lot easier and more fun. They might help you to relax, too. It’s hard to feel stressed when you’re being a choo-choo!
Train songs–the video:
I used train songs pretty much all the time in my classroom when I was moving the little ones from one place to another. Pretty much everyone liked to go for a train ride! Especially if I made train sounds while we got ready.
As the children got to know the songs, it became part of their habit-life to get ready to move or to start walking together. We had fun–at least most of the time. I’m talking about little ones, after all–they all have their moments (don’t we all!). Still, a song works better than yelling and herding–although perhaps you have some different alternatives.
I have other songs that I’ve used for moving us from one place to another–but these really have remained my favorites for many years because the children have so much fun with them.
The words:
Train songs:
Down by the station:
Down by the station, early in the morning See the little puffer bellies all in a row, Hear the station master give the starting signal, Puff, puff, toot, toot, off we go!
Little red caboose:
Little red caboose chug, chug, chug, Little red caboose chug, chug, chug, Little red caboose behind the train, train, train, train. Smokestack on his back, back, back, back, Running down the track, track, track, track Little red caboose behind the train. Toot! Toot!
Happy train riding!
When my girls were growing up in Chicago, real train rides–on the el–were a real treat. Pre-pandemic, and when I still lived in Chi-town, I still liked riding on the train. Do you have trains in your town? When it’s safe to ride again, take advantage if you can.
One friend used to take his son to stay at a hotel that was made of old train cars–they both loved it!
But if you can’t ride a real train, a pretend one will do.
